Artist Voice III: Tetsuro Komai x Cultural Narrative of a City Talk & Workshop
As part of the "Cultural Narratives of a City" project, the Keio University Art Center has been conducting workshops to connect people with the rich cultural resources of the region.
In conjunction with the exhibition "Artist Voice III: Tetsuro Komai - Etched Lines, Unleashed Strokes" which features works by Tetsuro Komai from the Keio University collection, we will hold a talk event and an object-based learning workshop. Object-based learning is a new approach to learning about cultural properties that has been actively pursued in recent years, mainly at universities in the U.K. and Australia. This time, we will be discussing copperplate prints in Japan.
In the event, we will look at the world of Tetsuro Komai, who is regarded as a pioneer of copperplate engraving in Japan, through the eyes of a family member who knows the artist himself, and through the eyes of a restorer who sees the work as an object in the workshop, in an attempt to understand the dense and profound world woven by the print technique and paper. We look forward to your participation.
