Ima Tenko Butoh Performance ‘COMET’

Comet that shines brightly and comes with a tail like a flame.
When I met Butoh, I thought it was like Comet.
I jumped. I grabbed the tail of the comet swimming vigorously and circled the universe.
Time is up. Comet comes again.
Carrying to earth the creativity pumped from the wellspring and the imagination that celebrates the future.

Ima Tenko (Butoh dancer, choreographer)
From 1980 to 1994, Ima Tenko was a member of Byakkosha. In 2000, she began running her own dance workshops and founded the Butoh company Kiraza. She continued to give performances at the Gojo Kaikan from 2007 to 2016. Her long-running Butoh performance, Hisoku, ran from 2016 to 2020 at the Kyoto Butoh-kan. In celebration of her 60th birthday, she performed Yami no Tsuya at the Pontocho Kaburenjo in 2019. The following year, her Diamond performance at UrBANGUILD won the Excellence Award at the 2020 ACA National Arts Festival. At the same venue, she also performed Love Tempest in 2021 and Comet in 2022, completing the Corona Trilogy together with Diamond. She pioneers new ground, exploring avant-garde Butoh with her own signature touch while also upheld by the power of “tamafuri” (reinvigoration of the soul), a practice at the heart of Japanese performing arts. Based in Kyoto, Japan, she performs internationally.
ryotaro (midi-accordion)
ryotaro plays a midi accordion, which describes an instrument that has been retrofitted with electronic sensors. He has performed with numerous dancers and performers, and is active internationally in Europe and other parts of the world.
