Narrating Faculty of Letters   The Humanistic Study in Documents
Venue:Library Exhibition Room at Keio University Mita Campus Library  (new building)

Although the mission of Faculty of Letters is to seek language or thought that have no form, the actual study is supported by various "Material" (documents, books and machinery). The humanistic study, which makes progress with the "Material", is also the process of discovering or investing values of the "Material".
We introduce the studies of the fuculty of letters throughout the various "Material" involved in its activities.

 

The Words of Master and Pupil  Junzaburo Nishiwaki and Toshihiko Izutsu

In the Faculty of Letters, regarding the study of language as an important subject from the earliest period, the lecture "Introduction to Linguistics" has been set as a compulsory subject in many majors since prewar. Junzaburo Nishiwaki, a scholar poet nominated for Nobel prize, and his pupil Toshihiko Izutsu, a great master of Eastern Philosophy, taught the subject for a long time. In this exhibition, the figure of the master and pupil facing with language will be descripted throughout their manuscripts and collection of books.
