Poetry is waiting to be translated?!
This year marks the 11th symposium traditionally held around January 20 in commemoration of Junzaburo Nishiwaki’s birthday. The theme for the upcoming event is “Translation.” Junzaburo Nishiwaki produced numerous translations of other poet’s works and presented his own original poetry in English. The title for this year’s symposium is “Poetry is waiting to be translated?!” By interrogating this theme and asking “is this really the case?” We hope to tie this discussion in with Junzaburo Nishiwaki’s understanding of poetry. With invited experts in French literature, translation, and English literature set to attend, this symposium represents a rare opportunity to hear their thoughts on the challenges of Junzaburo Nishiwaki and translation. Anyone is welcome to attend. (The event will also be streamed online)
