    This year we will again hold a symposium themed on the Japanese poet and literary critic Junzaburo Nishiwaki. We look forward to welcoming many visitors at this the 8th annual event of the Junzaburo Nishiwaki Archive, which was established and opened to the public in 2012.　While events to date have been themed mainly on Junzaburo Nishiwaki’s relationship with Japanese poets and scholars in his milieu, this year’s event will turn the focus of its lens on Nishiwaki’s “internationalism.”  Nishiwaki himself studied abroad in Great Britain during the 1920s, and his encounters with then-contemporary modernist poetry are well-known to have been pivotal to the development of his poetry. On this basis, the talk will discuss the influence of European poets upon Nishiwaki, focusing on T.S. Eliot and Jean Cocteau, from the perspectives of English and French literary studies. The symposium will subsequently move on to the overseas reception of Nishiwaki’s poetry and poetics by focusing on its relationship to Taiwanese literature. Presenters at the symposium will be taken from a wider array of specializations than those to date, and we look forward to you joining us in discovering what is revealed by our shining a further light on Junzaburo Nishiwaki.
